Fall is in the air!
When the highs dip below the 100* mark, we know fall is on the horizon. For us, it means we can finally get some fence building done and prepare the critters for winter. This summer Braveheart, our Mini Jersey Bull, discovered the big beef cattle next door. Our simple barbed wire fence was no match, so we are designing a new electrified fence. Once the pens are mapped out, posts set, and wire strung, he won’t be able to be such a Cassanova.
The chicken coop is getting a facelift with some ramps up to the nest boxes. We discovered it was necessary to clip the flight feathers on one side so the chickens would stay safely inside their pen. With the dogs running around, it really is in their best interest. However, this also made it impossible for them to fly up to the nest boxes to lay. That will be remedied this weekend.
FINALLY getting a little sip of rain around here. 1″ on October 5, 2011 and 2.3″ on October 10, 2011. We have little tender shoots of grass trying to come up now. Need several of these little rains to make a difference, but glad for every drop.
